Make the most of summer food - SUN Bucks application now live!

SUN Bucks is a new program in summer 2024 designed to help support children’s nutrition during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. Enrolled children will receive an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card with $120 dollars to be spent on food to make sure no kid goes hungry.

Most children who are eligible for the program, including kids from families who receive SNAP or other government benefits or who have completed a free and reduced lunch application or Family Income Survey during the past school year and who qualify, are automatically enrolled and don’t need to apply. Lots of cards have already been sent out, so be sure to check your mail if you believe your child is eligible through this route!

Some eligible families will need to apply for SUN Bucks, and the Department of Social and Health Services application for the program is now live! Here you’ll be able to find out if you need to apply, sign up for text updates, and complete an online application!

For more information about SUN Bucks, visit our main informational page for the program here.

SUN Bucks works alongside the Free Summer Meals program, which serves meals at no cost to all children. Meal sites may be located at schools, community centers, parks, libraries, and more locations, and no application or paperwork is required.

Looking to buy some fresh summer produce at a local farmer’s market? Like with SNAP benefits, you can double your SUN Bucks dollars through the Washington Fruit and Vegetable Incentives Program. Learn more!
